Does One Punch Man season 3 smell like a new disappointment?

It’s already happened more than a year and a half since the third season of the “One Punch Man” anime was officially announced, and yet we knew absolutely nothing about a project whose premiere remains completely up in the air today. In this sense, silence continues to reign, but at least today it has been confirmed that JC Staff will once again be the studio in charge of animation and… obviously there have been reactions.

Why there is already doubt about the quality of the third season of One Punch Man

We came from many rumors, rumors that above all pointed to MAPPA as the studio in charge of the animation of the third season of “One Punch Man.” And some rumors that, ultimately, They have been completely false.

Why do many fans not trust JC Staff? Why is there already fear that the third season of “One Punch Man” will once again not do justice to the work of Yusuke Murata and ONE?

one punch man s3 what study
There were MANY candidates for One Punch Man season 3, but in the end we were left with no surprise
  • In these cases the data speak for themselves, and while the First season from One Punch Man features a 8.50 out of 10 valuation in WRONG, the second season drops practically a whole point, remaining at a 7.51. 😅
  • What happened here? Well, the transition from Madhouse to JC Staff. It is important to note that what allowed the first season to be so exceptional was the presence of Shingo Natsume as a director (who attracted many high-class animators). But with Natsume-san busy at that time, everything indicates that the project ended up being derived and thus falling into the hands of JC Staff. 😶
  • The work of the second season was not ‘bad’ as such, but highly insufficient especially with the shadow of the first season. There was not a single technical section in which JC Staff managed to live up to season 1 of One Punch Man, and that caused a good part of the public to finish Disappointed with the anime, he will leave it halfway or not even start it. 😑

Personally, I’m also not excited about the return of JC Staff as the studio in charge of “One Punch Man” season 3. But I don’t think it’s fair to treat it as a lost production either.

Why there are reasons to continue believing in season 3 of One Punch Man

I think, coincidentally, there are 3 reasons why we can still hope that season 3 of the “One Punch Man” anime is not another case like season 2. They are the following.

JC Staff and his work with DanMachi

Today, the reality is that most of JC Staff’s productions are not remarkable at all. Obviously they can find animes that end up being quite popular, but in no case do they tend to differentiate themselves today in technical terms… with the exception of “DanMachi”.

danmachi - memory freese
DanMachi is an anime that usually does very well under JC Staff

Season 4 of the “DanMachi” anime is the only JC Staff production IN YEARS that has managed to surpass the rating of 8.00 on BAD, and as someone who saw it from start to finish I have to say that I was very satisfied with it. I can’t say that it was a production on the level of the first season of “One Punch Man” because it clearly wasn’t, but even so JC Staff did everything very well: from the tempo of the story (which was not easy due to the direction of the plot) to the artistic design and general animation. If season 3 of “One Punch Man” reaches these minimums, I am convinced that we will already have a more satisfactory production than season 2.

Shingo Natsume as director again?

One of the most curious things about what they have revealed about season 3 of “One Punch Man” is that, despite the revelation of JC Staff as the studio in charge of the project as well as some of the first people involved… It has not been revealed who will be the director of the production. That is, the long-awaited return of Shingo Natsume remains a possibility.

Everything that Shingo Natsume directs is a delight at an animation level

As a curiosity to continue speculating, I will say that Shingo Natsume’s last known project arrived in 2022, directing “The Tatami Time Machine Blues.” COINCENTLY, that year was the year the third season of “One Punch Man” was announced.. I leave it in the air.

The first teaser trailer for season 3 doesn’t look bad at all

This is more of a simple appraisal, but The first teaser trailer for season 3 of “One Punch Man” doesn’t look bad at all. For those who have not seen it yet, I leave it below:

It is only about 20-30 seconds from which no conclusion can be drawn, neither positive nor negative. However, it is a first impression that, without being impressive, I think It leaves more of a good taste in your mouth than a bad one.

In all honesty, I personally would have preferred another studio to JC Staff, but again I think it’s too early to bury the project. Doubts can be had and I also consider that they are totally justified, especially with the secrecy through which the third season of “One Punch Man” is being managed“. In any case, we still have a lot to discover and see how to be able to properly value it, so be patient.
