In last year’s edition the anime movies BEAUTY by Mamoru Hosoda and Studio Chizu; Fortune favors Lady Nikuko by Ayumu Watanabe and Studio 4°C; Josee, The Tiger and the Fish by Kotaro Tamura and Studio BONES; The Laws of the Universe – The Age of Elohim by Isamu Imakake and Studio Happy Science; Pompo: The Cinephile Takayuki Hirao and Studio CLAP; Y Poupelle of Chimney Town by Yusuke Hirota and Studio 4°C were considered, but neither were present for the final nomination.

synopsis of Goodbye, DonGlees!:
The story centers on the two boys named Rōma and Toto. The boys meet when Rōma moves from Tokyo to the country, which he can’t get used to. But when he meets Toto, they form a duo and call themselves “Don Glees.”
Eventually, Toto was supposed to move to Tokyo for school, but in the summer of their first year of high school, they meet Drop, a new addition to the Don Glees, who invites them to “see the world from above.” . When Rōma and Toto follow Drop, they get caught up in a forest fire for which they are blamed and go in search of a missing drone that has proof of their innocence. A small incident turns into a major, life-changing journey, culminating in Iceland.
