These series have been victims of COVID-19 this season

More than three years since the pandemic began COVID-19, you would think that there is nothing to worry about anymore, right? Well, it turns out that you are very wrong! Even today there are still outbreaks of infection in anime studios in Japan, which is why, curiously, many productions have ended up being suspended to date.

There are some other theories that affirm that the production problems are not due to COVID-19 but due to poor production management.especially of Aniplex. However, since the production company lists that all the delays are due to COVID-19 in its official statements, the only thing left to do is accept that reason while we wait for someone to get out of there and filter the information.

In short, so that you understand the magnitude of the pandemic today within the anime industry, review the suspensions that have occurred so far this year:

  • Isekai Oji-san (Uncle from Another World): At the end of December 2022, the production reported that the thirteenth and last episode of the series would be suspended again due to production problems. It was recently finally established that the premiere would be on March 8.
  • UniteUp!: On January 22, the production reported that the fourth episode, originally scheduled for January 28, would be delayed until February 11 due to production problems.
  • NieR: Automata Ver.1.1a: On January 22, the production reported that the fourth episode, originally scheduled for January 28, would be delayed indefinitely. Instead, they re-aired the first three episodes, and finally the promised airing of the fourth episode arrived on February 18.
  • Ayakashi Triangle: On January 22, the production reported that the broadcast of the fifth episode, originally scheduled for February 6, would be delayed indefinitely due to production problems. To date there is still no news of its resumption.
  • Kubo-san wa Mob wo Yurusanai (Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible): On January 24, the production reported that the broadcast of the seventh episode, scheduled for February 21, will be delayed indefinitely due to production problems. Worse still, the series has plans for an April reboot, so if all goes well you won’t see the continuation of the series until mid-May.
  • Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha 2nd Season (The Misfit of Demon King Academy): On February 11, the production reported that the broadcast of the seventh episode, scheduled for February 18, would be indefinitely delayed due to production problems. On that date, the series restarted its broadcast from the first episode, but it is still not clear when it will resume.
  • BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense 2nd Season: On February 13, the production reported that the broadcast of the seventh episode, scheduled for February 22, would be delayed until March 8 due to production problems. In fact, although it is resumed, they still do not have the last two episodes of this second season ready.
  • spy room (spy kyoushitsu): On February 16, the production reported that the broadcast of the eighth episode, originally scheduled for March 23, would be delayed until March 2 due to production problems.
  • Masamune-kun no Revenge 2nd Season (Masamune-kun’s Revenge): On February 16, the production reported that the premiere, originally scheduled for April 2023, would be delayed three months, until July 2023, due to production problems.
  • Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence (Shiro Seijo to Kuro Bokushi): On February 10, the production reported that the premiere, originally scheduled for April 2023, would be delayed three months, until July 2023, due to production problems.
