WataMote: Tomoko’s voice actress revealed that she was sexually harassed

The franchise of Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!or better known as WataMote: No Matter How I Look At It, It’s You Guys’ Fault I’m Not Popular!, is quite popular among all those who saw it at the time, almost a decade ago. Although the story was quite applauded and the protagonist, Tomoko Kurokiwas so loved by the fans, somehow the franchise could not continue and stopped at a single season.

Wata Mote

Many claim that the franchise was simply destined to fail, especially because of the way the protagonist somehow reflects the Japanese otakus. However, others claim that the franchise did have everything to be relevant in some way and continue to be transcendent, but it was released at the worst possible time. Wata Mote was part of the schedule for the premiere of the Summer-2013 season (July-September) in Japan, so it had to compete with other projects such as High School DxD New, Senki Zesshou Symphogear G and Monogatari Series: Second Season.

And not only that, but a season before they had been released shingeki no kyojin, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S (second season), Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru (oregairu) and Hataraku Maou-sama!, four giants that are still active today. Faced with such monsters, WataMote could only compete for the crumbs of attention they left him.

But today we do not come to lament the fact that this franchise is practically dead, but rather because the voice actress Izumi Kittawho played the lead Tomoko Kurokirecently became a trend after sharing an update on Twitter where he criticized that:

  • «Everyone says that Japan is a safe country, but I was sexually harassed every day when I was a student. Being abroad makes me wonder which is more peaceful: the UK, where people are careful not to have their pocket phone stolen on the train, or Japan, where people are careful not to be sexually assaulted. When I talk about sexual harassment in Japan abroad, people can’t believe that something like this actually happens.“, wrote.
